DPI is a more widely used method of inspection to check surface-breaking defect. The material is sprayed with a liquid, that penetrates any invisible surface cracks/ defects. A second liquid is then applied which then makes the flaws visible to the inspector

MPI Is the process for detection of surface and slightly sub-surface defects in magnetic materials. The presence of a surface or subsurface discontinuity in the material allows the magnetic flux to leak, since air supports significantly less magnetic field per unit volume as metals.
